Julie Mills

Registered Manager at Grenham Bay Court

In 1989, straight out of school and uncertain about what the future might hold, Julie joined Grenham Bay Court through a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) placement.

What began as an opportunity to gain experience and earn a modest wage soon became something far more meaningful, the start of a lifelong career in care.

"Never forget that while we work here, this is someone’s home"

From her earliest days supporting residents with small but important daily tasks, Julie discovered a genuine passion for making a difference in people’s lives. Determined to strengthen her knowledge and skills, she completed her NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, steadily progressing through a variety of roles within the home.

Julie’s commitment, hands-on experience, and dedication to high standards of care led to her promotion to Deputy Manager. Continuing her professional development, she achieved her NVQ Level 4 in Leadership and Management before going on to become Registered Manager — a position she holds with pride and deep personal commitment.

Throughout her career at Grenham Bay Court, Julie has been supported by the owners, enabling her to grow professionally while remaining true to her values.

Although the care sector has evolved significantly over the years, Julie’s core principles have remained constant:

  • Treat everyone with respect
  • Lead by example
  • Never forget that while we work here, this is someone’s home

Grenham Bay Court itself has seen many changes throughout its history — from tea rooms, to a hotel, and now to a welcoming residential care home. Julie is proud to have been part of that journey and to have grown alongside it.

Looking back, what began as a simple placement in 1989 has become a deeply fulfilling career dedicated to ensuring residents feel safe, respected, and truly at home.
